Overview

This qualification covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health care procedures. It has three pathways:

Ø  Generic health and social care

Ø  Dementia

Ø  Learning Disability

 

Aims

This qualification confirms competence in these areas for roles such as:

Ø  Senior care assistants/support workers/key workers in residential settings, domiciliary services, day services

Ø  Senior healthcare assistants / support workers in community care, primary care, and acute health environments

Ø  Senior support workers in supported living projects

Ø  Community‐based senior care assistants/ support workers/key workers, including those working in specialist areas eg dementia, learning disabilities

Ø  Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families

Ø  Emerging new types of workers & multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models

Target audience

There aren’t any specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However learners might find it useful if they’ve already completed a Level 2 qualification. Learners have to be at least 16 years old.

Assessment

This qualification will be internally accessed and learners will be required to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit.

Roles of combination

Candidates undertake mandatory units to the value of 28 credits, and then complete optional knowledge and competence units within 1 of 3 pathways ‐Generic, Dementia, Learning Disability to a total of 58 credits.

Progression.

This competence based qualification can provide progression to further qualifications at level 4 in the same related subject areas
