Overview

This qualification covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health care procedures. It has three pathways:

Ø  Generic health and social care

Ø  Dementia

Ø  Learning Disability

 

Aims

This qualification confirms competence for roles such as:

Ø  Care assistants/support workers/key workers in residential settings, domiciliary services, day services

Ø  Healthcare assistants / support workers in community care, primary care, and acute health environments

Ø  Support workers in supported living projects

Ø  Community based care assistants/ support workers/key workers, including those working in specialist areas eg dementia, learning disabilities

Ø  Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families

Ø  Emerging new types of workers & multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and

Target audience

All those who wish to work or are working in a supervised role with adults in health and social care environments in England.

Ø  Care assistant workers in residential settings or supported living

Ø  Healthcare support workers in community and primary care environments

Ø  Healthcare assistants in acute health environments

Ø  Care support workers in domiciliary services

Assessment

This qualification will be internally accessed and learners will be required to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit.

Roles of combination

Learners must achieve a minimum of 46 credits to gain the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England. They must achieve 24 credits from the mandatory units in Group A; a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the option units in Group B; and at least 15 credits from the optional units in Group C. By achieving specified units within Groups B and C learners can claim endorsed pathways ‐Dementia or Adults with Learning Disabilities.
